The COVID-19 pandemic is a recent disaster that disrupted most countries’ social and economic landscapes. Due to its rapid spread worldwide, the health-related emergency occasioned negative consequences, such as increased mortality rates. The disaster provoked instant response mechanisms by relevant stakeholders, including governments, to implement tactics to prevent life loss and the deterioration of national healthcare systems. It threatened economic structures as the adopted policies limited physical movement by stressing the importance of staying home. Regardless, the response to the coronavirus pandemic manifested major challenges since it tested the organization’s preparedness capabilities to respond to unplanned events. In essence, firms had to establish collaborative capacities to increase their resource base and maintain continuity during the critical period of total and partial lockdowns. The situation exacerbated the healthcare challenges as the overwhelming contagion rates also increased healthcare providers’ burden, leading to burnouts that culminated in high turnover rates in the sector. The response strategies adopted by governments attained justification because lowering infection rates offered a better approach than treating the disease.
